So where is the PC-C37?

The PC-C37 Muse is a multi-media HTPC chassis from Lian Li... one that I've had my eye on for a little while now. You see, I've been planning on building a new LinuxMCE Media Director for a little while now (hence my 35 watt dual-core Athlon 64 blog plost back in May!), but have not found many appropriate PC chassis.

Ideally, I want a HTPC chassis that meets the following criteria:

The vast majority of HTPC chassis are easily discounted by the third point - not more than 135mm high. Indeed, most HTPC chassis currently available are a lot taller than that - even the so-called "compact" ones.

But, I have found two that seem to meet all of those requirements:

Antec Micro Fusion Remote 350
Antec Micro Fusion Remote 350
(there was no "Remote" this product's name back in May...)

Lian Li PC-C37 Muse
Lian Li PC-C37 Muse
(the specifications page indicates that it's also available in silver).

I've all but given up on the Antec Micro Fusion Remote 350... it seems that it was released more than one year ago, and has since ceased being available. The Antec website does not link to it anywhere (the above deep-links came from a site-based Google advanced search). Now all the retailers I can see that carry the Micro Fusion, list it's availability as "call" or "contact us", and so far, of all such retailers I've contacted, every single one has either not responded, or reported that the Micro Fusion is simply "not currently available". So, I'm making the not-so-big leap to assume that the Micro Fusion Remote 350 has been discontinued.

Which leaves the recently-announced PC-C37 Muse. I originally saw this chassis back May or June, but again, it seemed to be unavailable. That was, until sometime in late June, that the PC-C37 product page's front image was altered to include the text "End of July 2008".

Lian Li PC-C37 Muse

Well, I can tell you, that sparked my interest! :) So, I assumed (perhaps incorrectly), that this product would be "available" (in some form) by the end of July 2008. Now, I really only expected that "availability" to be to reviewers at worst, and US retailers at best... being here in Australia, I assumed it would still be a bit longer before I see any available locally.

Well... July 2008 is now officially over... it's come, and it's gone... and still I see nothing indicating that the PC-C37 Muse has become any more available than the various press announcements from the past two months. So then, what exactly does the "End of July 2008" text refer to? I'm guessing my original assumption is still correct, which would mean that either: Lian Li has slipped their own deadline, or that the market is being slow to report a newly available product... either way, I'm still waiting with anticip....ation ;)

Lian Li PC-C37B

Did a bit of searching yesterday, and it seems that the Lian Li PC-C37 is now being listed on a couple of retail sites as the "PC-C37B"... presumably "B" is for "Black"? So I did a google search for PC-C37S ("S" for "Silver"), but that turned up nothing. I also noticed that a lot of silver Lian Li chassis use a model suffix of "A", so I searched for PC-C37A too... but that hasn't turned up anything useful yet.

Anyway, perhaps the most interesting thing at this stage, is that EastLuna.com is listing the PC-C37B with an ETA of "Mon, Aug 18th 2008". So, presumably we will see some hands-on reviews before then? :)

PC-C37B on Newegg

Well, the PC-C37B (ie the black version) is now listed on Newegg.com... hopefully someone will list the silver version soon - I'd love to see what it looks like (and buy it, of course).

The first PC-C37A links...

Ok, it seems that the PC-C37A is starting to make it onto some sites - well, in Japan at least...

Alas, still no pictures of the 37A yet.

Lian Li PC-C36A

While snooping around Lian Li's image repository (again), I've found an image of the PC-C36A - ie the silver version of the PC-C36 :)

From what I can tell, this image is not being shown anywhere on the internet yet... not even on Lian Li's own website. So this post is kind of a non-exclusive world first? ;)

I'm still looking for the silver PC-37A though... :|

Finally!!

I picture of the PC-C37A has finally appeared on the Lian Li website, and here it is...

Lian Li PC-C37A

Now, if only I can find someone who stocks it here in Australia... apparently the importers think we only want the black version :|

I've found one?

Could it be that an Australian retailer is now supplying the silver PC-C37A?! Seems so... http://www.nexus.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=543.

I've sent them an email inquiry to verify... (fingers crossed)

So did you find it?

Did they get back to you yet? Is it available?

Not yet

Nope, no reply from Nexus yet... maybe they are slow over the Christmas / New Year period?

If at first you dont succeed...

I've just emailed Nexus again... last time I used their online "contact us" form, so just in case there's something wrong with it (I didn't receive any email confirmation after all), I've emailed them directly at webshop@nexus.com.au this time...

That's a negative, Ghost Rider

Ok, so Nexus has replied to my email... here's the response verbatim:

Hi Paul,

unfotunately our supplier stop getting the silver color

sorry for the trouble

regards,
Nexus

Personally I think they're slightly fudging the truth by the saying that their supplier stopped supplying the silver color - I suspect that the Australian importer never brought the silver model into the country - ever. But at least Nexus got back to me, which I really appreciate.

So it seems that I will never get the silver PC-C37A, unless I can find an international retailer that's willing to ship to Australia (no luck yet). Ah, well... time to move on and choose a different case, I guess :|
